The rate of inflation - The Fans Speak Out

Bowling Digest, Dec, 2003 by Glenn Buchanan

While I agree with most of Brett Ballantini's "Make No Mistake: Walter Ray's the Greatest" [October 2003], praising Williams Jr. for breaking the single-season earnings mark once held by Mike Aulby is a bit misleading. It is true that Williams broke the record in fewer events, but in 1989--when Aulby earned a then record $298,237--the top prizes were much smaller than they are today. (Today's Seniors earn $40,000 for a tour win, and $100,000 for a major.) If Aulby dominated today the way he did that year, he probably would've amassed more than $500,000.
