All four majors will have arena settings - PBA Tidbits

Bowling Digest, Dec, 2003

THE PBA IS BRINGING ARENA TOURnament competition to some of the top events of the 2003-04 season.

Following the Dexter PBA Tournament of Champions, December 12 to 14 at the Mohegan Sun Arena (Uncasville, Conn.), the PBA will begin the second half of the season in Seattle with the finals of the PBA Earl Anthony Classic on January 11 at Fisher Pavilion in the Seattle Center.

Reno will be the setting for back-to-back tournaments at the National Bowling Stadium, where both the ABC Masters (January 20 to 25) and the PBA Reno Open (January 25 to 29) will be contested.

The Anaheim Convention Center, located adjacent to Disneyland, will be the setting for the finals of the 61st U.S. Open on February 8, 2004.

Finally, the season-ending PBA World Championship will feature the final two days of competition at Eastern Michigan University's Convocation Center in Ypsilanti, Mich.

"The arena settings allow us to reach a substantially greater number of fans and help create an atmosphere that our fans and players both respond to," says PBA commissioner Fred Schreyer. "We can seat up to 4,000 people in a few of our arenas, and the enthusiasm generated by the crowd translates into the competition between our stars on the lanes."
