Eagle soars to victory on the strength of some 10th-frame heroics - Senior PBA: National Championship - bowling - Brief Article

Bowling Digest, Feb, 2002

Dale Eagle won his second PBA Senior National Championship by throwing a clutch double in the 10th frame to defeat Gene Stus, 237-205. Eagle earned $12,000 for his win, his seventh PBA Senior title to go with three PBA titles.

For Stus, it was a bittersweet loss. He had won the event three times but never in Jackson. He won two matches but just couldn't get anything going until the 8th frame, while Eagle found a good pocket shot and threw strikes, in seven of his final eight shots.

The stepladder finals opened with Larry Franz earning a victory over birthday boy Gary Hiday, 258-215.
