A different Reeves - The Fans Speak Out

Football Digest, Oct, 2002 by Dan Smyer

On the "Pro Football Hall of Fame Roster" on page 59 of your August 2002 issue, you have Dan Reeves listed as a team owner and inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1967. I do believe that's wrong.

Actually, we were correct. We assume that you think we were referring to the other Dan Reeves--current coach of the Atlanta Falcons and former coach of the Denver Broncos and New York Giants--who obviously isn't in the Hall of Fame. The Dan Reeves listed on our roster was the owner of the Cleveland and then Los Angeles Rams. He moved the Rams from Cleveland to L.A. in 1946, opening up the West Coast to pro football. He also was the first postwar owner to sign an African-American player. For his contributions to the game, he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1967. Reeves died in 1971 at the age of 58.
