A flick of the switch: just like that, "Neon" Deion Sanders is back in the NFL, trying to light up the Ravens

Football Digest, Dec, 2004 by Barry Wilner

"The thing is, every time I line up, the guys that I play against know that I give everything that I've got," White said midway in the 2000 season. "Now the numbers are not there, and maybe one of the reasons is because I'm not playing full time. Right now, I'm not on top of my game. But things like that are not going to take away from the legacy that I've been able to achieve."

No, the legacy remained intact, but White's decision to return did look a bit foolish by the end of the season, when the Panthers finished 7-9 and White retired again. "Reggie's records and accomplishments say it all," Seifert said. "He is a Hall of Fame player and possibly the best defensive lineman ever to play the game."

But he wasn't either in that final year.
