True grit - The Fans Speak Out

Football Digest, Feb, 2002 by Bill Schwartz

I just wanted to thank you for the article you wrote about Bill Bates of the Dallas Cowboys ["True Blue," December 2001]. He truly was one of my favorite players, and now he is one of my favorite coaches. He is a guy who kids today should look up to. He's a good family man, a hard worker, and someone who doesn't know the meaning of the word "quit" on or off the football field.

To not be drafted and be a player for 14 years with the Cowboys is definitely something to be proud of. Thank you for giving all of us someone to read about who is worthy of being called a role model.
