Topic: RSS FeedA run on runners? Cedric Benson of Texas leads a talented group of rushers into the NFL
Football Digest, June, 2005
3. CHRIS SPENCER, MISSISSIPPI, 6'2", 305
Although he's very raw, Spencer has the size and mobility to be effective. He'll need some time on the bench to learn, especially at recognizing defenses. Spencer must get stronger, too. He compensates for those deficiencies, however, with his leadership ability.
4. GEOFF HANGARTNER, TEXAS A&M, 6'8", 307
Hangartner is a typical Aggie: nasty and strong, with a good motor. But he's also gotten into some trouble away from the field and must work on getting past the line to reach linebackers. Still, Hangartner improved throughout his career at A&M.
5. DAVID BAAS, MICHIGAN, 6'4", 320
Related Results
He mainly has been a guard, but his work at center at the Senior Bowl encouraged scouts. If Baas can play two line positions, he will enhance his attractiveness. His size and intelligence make him a good fit as a snapper.
OTHERS TO WATCH: Jason Brown, North Carolina; Scott Mruczkowski, Bowling Green; Drew Hodgdon, Arizona State; Richie Incognito, Nebraska; Kyle Schmitt, Maryland.
GUARDS
1. ELTON BROWN, VIRGINIA, 6'4", 330
Brown is big and rangy but not consistent enough. When he puts out his full effort, he can handle anyone. His senior season was so good he moved into the first round, and his strength is a plus. He probably could play tackle, too.
2. CHRIS KEMOEATU, UTAH, 6'3", 340
Kemoeatu is better against the run, where he can fire out and use his size. He also handles power rushers well. But his pass protection is questionable, and he has had weight issues. His temper also can get the best of him.
3. CLAUDE TERRELL, NEW MEXICO, 6'1", 344
A rare top prospect from this school, Terrell understands the position and is solid in the power game. But when asked to move much, he can have problems.
4. DAN BUENNING, WISCONSIN, 6'3", 315
Buenning comes off a good season and postseason. He carries his weight well and moves nicely for his size. Furthermore, personnel men like his smarts and coachability. He should power his way into some NFL team's lineup.
5. ADAM SNYDER, OREGON, 6'5", 325
Big and strong but not as athletic as he needs to be, Snyder has room for improvement. He had a better season than postseason, and some scouts want to see stronger fundamentals from him. Snyder will be overpowered if he doesn't improve his basics, but he is coachable.
OTHERS TO WATCH: C.J. Brooks. Maryland; Evan Mathis. Alabama; Nick Kaczur, Toledo; Ike Ndukwe, Northwestern; Wes Sims, Oklahoma.
TACKLES
1. ALEX BARRON, FLORIDA STATE, 6'7", 325
One of the better tackle prospects and the only offensive lineman likely to go in the top 10, Barron has it all. His tremendous size is a plus, and he's athletic, strong, and willing. Barron could be the best tackle out of FSU since Walter Jones, which is saying a lot.
2. JAMMAL BROWN, OKLAHOMA, 6'4", 302
Although he is experienced and versatile, Brown is not on Barron's level, he might be more effective in the run game initially. He's faced--and handled--some of the better defensive ends around, but he wasn't effective in the Orange Bowl against USC, which hurt his stock.
