No heart or soul - The Fans Speak Out - Letter to the Editor

Hockey Digest, Dec, 2003 by Don MacIntyre

I'm not sure if Alex Gordon, the managing editor of the HOCKEY DIGEST, reads his own "Faceoff" column or if someone else puts ridiculous statements in there to see if we are awake, but calling Sergei Fedorov "the heart and soul" of the Detroit Red Wings, as he did in the the November issue, is an indicator he has no clue. Any Red Wings fan can tell you that the heart and soul of the Red Wings is the man with the "C" on his sweater, Steve Yzerman. Fedorov, when he is on his game and ready to play, is one of the best in the NHL. But when he is in one of his moods, well, forget it. I suppose it could be worse--he could have picked Fedorov to show the Ducks what it takes to stay a winner.

Don, we meant no disrespect to Yzerman. We were referring specifically to lust season when Yzerman was out and Fedorov picked up the mantle of leadership.
