Chicago no hope

Hockey Digest, Jan-Feb, 2004 by Matthew Foerster

As a Blackhawks fan, I have wondered for a long time why the Hawks have not been able to win the Stanley Cup over the last 40-plus years ["Why Can't These Teams Win?" December 2003]. I have come to the conclusion that their owner, Bill Wirtz, does not want to win. It seems he'd rather lose and make the fans upset Why? Maybe he thinks depressed people will drink more alcoholic beverages, meaning more money in his coffers. Wirtz is stuck in the '60s in regards to the brand of hockey, he wants played and will keep around him those who share his myopia. Well, at least the Hawks have the coolest jersey in all of sports, an asset of which Wirtz takes full advantage.
