In 1979, the Challenge Cup Series between the Soviet Union and Team NHL
replaced the All-Star Game
In 1987, Rendez-Vous `87, a two-game series between the Soviet Union
and NHL All-Stars replaced the traditional matchup.
In 1995, the lockout forced the cancellation of the All-Star Game.
