Agreeing to disagree

Hockey Digest, July-August, 2004 by Steve Fischler

Although I agree with a 10t of your picks in the "Honors and Dishonors" article [April 2004], I really have a problem with one pick. There is no way that Philly fans are the worst in the NHL. There are no more loyal fans in the country, despite the fact that we know we probably won't get a major championship again this year (for the 21st year in a row). Philly fans stay Philly fans. No matter where we go, no matter how much razzing we take for our teams not winning, no matter how long it takes for our team to win a championship again (hopefully, it won't be another 30 years) we still cheer for them every game. You will never see Philly fans dressed in Lakers jerseys and Yankees caps rooting for the Red Wings. However, you will see us cheering when they win, booing when they don't score, laughing when Tie Domi or Scott Stevens gets smashed into the glass, and crying when they lose. But above all else, two things will remain true: We'll always hate the Devils and Rangers with a passion and we will continue to be fans no matter how long it takes to hoist that Cup again.
