Hockey Digest, May, 2003 by Michael Silverstein
In your April 2003 issue, you stated as evidence that coaching changes usually aren't effective ["Same As It Ever Was"] that the Colorado Avalanche's record in the 14 games after making Tony Granato head coach was 7-6-0-1. I just wanted to point out that as I am writing this, Colorado has not lost in regulation since that time, going 8-0-2-1 and moving ever closer to a record ninth consecutive division crown. Patrick Roy's improved play is a big reason for the turnaround, but some credit must being given to the man behind the bench. Granato salvaged the failed team that Bob Hartley left him. Evidently, a coaching change can make a huge difference.
