Zubov deserving - The Fans Speak Out - Letter to the Editor

Hockey Digest, Summer, 2002 by C. Smoot

I thoroughly enjoyed your top 10 defensive defensemen list, but I would like to suggest that Dallas' Sergei Zubov was overlooked, and has, in fact, been overlooked by hockey writers for years. This is primarily due to the fact his skills as a blueliner are so slick and subtle he does not need to waste time making the big splashy plays. He has better hands than most centers, better wheels than many forwards, and steals more than he blocks. I enjoy the big-hitting, drop-the-gloves type defensemen, but I think we should give respect to those who play with skill and position as well.

Perhaps it won't surprise you that Zubov did make one of our earlier lists--the Most Underrated Players in the NHL.
