Leave the logos alone - The Fans Speak Out - Letter to the Editor

Hockey Digest, Summer, 2002 by Gerry Van Oeveren

I wanted to comment on that letter in your May issue about improving the NHL logos. I'm embarrassed a Michigan person would even think of changing the Detroit logo. I'm a die-hard Red Wings fan and will die one. Could you imagine Gordie Howe or Mickey Redmond being caught in that design that reader came up with? Also, it will be a cold day in hell, when the other Original Six teams change their logos. To that reader, keep your day job flipping burgers and leave the NHL logos alone.

Gerry, while we tend to agree that some logos, such as Detroit's are sacrosanct, if you go back and read the letter again, we think you'll find that it was the work of one our younger readers, not a disgruntled graphic artist working at Wendy's. You were one of several readers who took our young friend to task for simply suggesting a little tinkering. We, for one, are going to cut him some slack and applaud his creativity and pluck. We also kind of like that Shark wearing gloves.
