Bless you, boys - The Fans Speak Out - Letter to the Editor

Soccer Digest, August-Sept, 2002

Congratulations to the United States soccer team for its incredible World Cup run. Bruce Arena and the boys truly demonstrated not only that Americans can play this game a little bit, but our mettle and determination makes us a stronger team than we've ever been. The days when the U.S. cowers from its opponents--as it did against Czechoslovakia in the 1990 World Cup and Germany in 1998--are finally gone. I'm already looking forward to 2006--bring on the world!

I never thought I'd be as overwhelmed by a sporting event as I was watching the U.S.-Mexico game. Bouncing back from the Poland loss, I didn't expect the Americans to frustrate the Mexican team the way that they did. It was a truly inspiring World Cup performance.

I'd write a long letter praising the U.S.'s march to the quarterfinals were I not so busy wiping the tears from the keyboard--thanks for making us proud boys!
