Memories are made of this - The Fan Speak Out - Brief Article

Soccer Digest, Jan, 2002 by Tracy Fruchey

What fitting irony that your November 2001 issue features two former Columbus Crew players, David Winner ["A Goalie, But Not a Keeper"] and Paul Caligiuri ["Memento"]. One of the two, when asked the best stadium in the league said, "Columbus Crew Stadium [because] they have the best fans in the league." The other sought legal arbitration so he wouldn't have to play in Columbus. One of the two receives a standing ovation when playing on an opposing team; the other

receives boos and catcalls.

David Winner will always have a home in the hearts of the Crew faithful. Labeling Paul Caligiuri the Most Important Soccer Player in U.S. History may ring true elsewhere, but not in this corner of the soccer world.
