Running afoul - The Fan Speak Out

Soccer Digest, Jan, 2002 by R.M. Arnold

Fouls in soccer are too lethal these days. How long can this go on? If I were in charge there would be more red cards and officials would be replaced.

I believe that the reasons for this problem are the tightening of recent rules, such as the outlawing of fair shoulder charges, fair tackles from behind in order to stop a player from making a pass or a shot, and shirt pulling. The only thing left for people to do is make reckless tackles. I feel bad for the truly skillful players today.
