Thank you - The Fans Speak Out - Letter to the Editor

Soccer Digest, Dec, 2003

It's sad that the U.S. women didn't get to go out with a World Cup win. I want to thank all of the women for all of the memories that they gave to me and literally millions of others--especially young girls. Mia Hamm, Julie Foudy, Kristine Lilly, Joy Fawcett, and Brandi Chastain are and always will be my heroes.

The United States women's soccer team may have lost in the 2003 World Cup semifinals, but those players will always be winners to me. I am a high school soccer player and I grew up idolizing those women. My favorite is Julie Foudy because she's intelligent and a leader as well as a great player and a friendly person. Her tireless fight for Title IX and the rights of women's sports would be enough to make her a role model even if she didn't play soccer.
