The surfer boy grows up: still a free spirit at heart, the Crew star is now also a leader and a U.S. soccer ambassador - sort of - Interview: Frankie Hejduk - Interview

SD: You turn 30 next year and you're probably going to finish your career in MLS, have you given any thought as to what you'd like to do after your career?

FH: I'd like to sit on my lounge chair by the beach--I have a home just north of San Diego on the West Coast--and that's about it. Be a quiet and as mellow as possible, once I'm done playing. With my boy hanging around, surfing whatever, doing the Marley "skank." That's what I do .during the offseason: surf. San Diego is a great up-and-coming place, lots of cool restaurants, lots of growth. They're making it into a mini Los Angeles. They're really doing a lot down there.

As for soccer, I'd definitely like to run some clinics and work with younger kids. My boy is already playing three-on-three. It's fun. You get out to watch them and one kid's doing cartwheels over the ball, another's doing back flips. They're just kinda messing around and having a good time.
