WCW Rankings - Brief Article

Wrestling Digest, August, 2000

1. Sid Vicious

Sid's victory at Uncensored cemented his position as WCW's champion. However, one question remains: Upon Goldberg's return, how long will Sid's reign as champion last?

2. Jeff Jarrett

Jarrett's impressive showing at Uncensored against Sid Vicious did nothing to hurt the current U.S. heavy-weight champion's status. Jarrett should spend more time focusing on his title and less time chasing after Sid.

3. Hulk Hogan

Hogan booked himself in another victory over Ric Flair, this time at Uncensored. Now that he has returned to a more prominent role in the federation, how will Hogan respond? Will he "job" to get wrestlers over, or will his ego get in the way?

4. Booker

Booker and Kidman defeated Harlem Heat 2000 at Uncensored. Perhaps this will finally end the feud and allow Booker to return to the singles ranks. With WCW in need of star power, why is this former champion being overlooked for another title?

5. Sting

After being out of major action for several months, Sting returned to WCW and was put over in his match with the Total Package at Uncensored. If he rededicates himself to wrestling, Sting could become a major player again now that Eric Bischoff is in charge.

6. Ric Flair

Flair did nothing to embarrass himself against Hogan at Uncensored. Flair managed to put on a good show before succumbing to the big boot and leg-drop. Flair's best days are behind him, but he still maintains his "legend" status.

7. Dustin Rhodes

Dustin's win over Terry Funk proved nothing. To legitimize his presence in WCW, he must get over on the likes of Sting and Luger. Unless something drastic happens, Rhodes will never have the type of success he enjoyed as Goldust in the WWF.

8. Vampiro

Vampiro's star keeps rising after an impressive victory over Fit Finlay at Uncensored. Once relegated to earlycard matches, Vampiro is moving up in the ranks of WCW superstars. The "Brothers in Paint" angle with Sting is a good fit for Vampiro provided Sting sticks around.

9. The Wall

The Wall has been choke-slamming his way across WCW, leaving a trail of "sprained necks" in his wake. Although the Wall's match with Bam Bam Bigelow resulted in a no contest, it looks like the big man will remain a force to be reckoned with in WCW.

10. The Total Package

It was a bad night for Team Package at Uncensored as Flair lost to Hogan and then the Total Package dropped his match to Sting. But, TTP is a favorite of Bischoff and may see increased exposure in WCW in the coming months.
