Wrestling Digest, August, 2001
1. "Stone Cold" Steve Austin and Triple H
Steve Austin and Triple H have now added the tag-team title to their respective world heavyweight and intercontinental championships. In a nearly 30-minute match ,with Kane and the Undertaker at Backlash on April 29, Austin and Triple H treated fans to some over-the-top brawling that included the use of a sledgehammer. Don't bet on these guys to keep all three of the major titles for long.
2. Edge and Christian
For variety's sake, the WWF has been allowing its higher-profile teams to wrestle in singles competition more often, and Edge and Christian have been no exception. This high-flying team is fast becoming one of the most prolific tag teams in wrestling history, but it may be headed for some changes. This may be the last time the duo cracks the rankings as a team.
3. The Hardy Boyz (Matt and Jeff)
There is some serious dissension in this team's ranks, but with a lack of legitimate teams in the WWF, they crack the top five. The storylines tell the tale as individual titles and Lita's love take the forefront over family and team loyalties. This is a volatile situation that could erupt at any minute. Whom will Lita choose?
4. X-Factor (Justin Credible and X-Pac, with Albert)
This newly formed team scored an impressive win over former tag-team champions the Dudley Boyz in less than eight minutes at Backlash. There is no better way to elevate a team than to have it gain a victory over one of the most popular teams in professional wrestling. But victories aside, can X-Pac stay out of trouble outside the ring long enough to keep the push going?
5. The Dudley Boyz (Buh Buh Ray and D-Von, with Spike)
These guys must have ticked off someone in the back to be forced to job to X-Factor. As multiple-time ECW and WWF tag-team champions, fans can't question their desire to give it their all in the ring. Whether they are breaking tables or their opponents' backs, the Dudleys will be back in the title mix sooner than later, with a huge chip on their shoulders.
