10 To Watch On the New WCW Roster - wrestlers - Brief Article

Wrestling Digest, August, 2001 by Steve Anderson

Keep your eyes on these grapplers as they reclaim their glory in the combined federations

ONCE WCW DEBUTS UNDER McMahon leadership, keep an eye on these 10 performers who will surely make an impact in the new federation. [Note: As of press time, it appeared that these 10 performers would wrestle in the new WCW.]

Booker T

The reigning WCW world heavyweight and U.S. heavyweight champion is a desired commodity. His longtime association with the promotion and his devoted fan following make him a necessary part of the new WCW foundation.

Diamond Dallas Page

Renowned for his work ethic, DDP could serve as a locker-room leader by example for the new WCW. As the promotion grew, so did DDP. He went from manager to mid-card performer to world heavyweight champion. That growth can continue.

Bill Goldberg

With multimillions guaranteed him for the foreseeable future, Goldberg may not be interested in the WWF. Judging from Vince McMahon's informal survey on the March 26 "RAW-Nitro" simulcast, WCW fans are speaking loudly with their "Goldberg" chants.

Lance Storm

Many fans thought that Lance Storm should have chosen the WWF when he left ECW in May 2000. Those fans may get finally their wish and get to see their Canadian hero working under the auspices of the WWF-owned WCW.

Mike Awesome

Mike Awesome's sheer size and high-flying ability make him an obvious choice for the rebuilding WCW. His initial tenure under Time Warner was hampered with bad angles and ridiculous gimmicks. With the WWF creative machine, Awesome should be, well, awesome.

Sean O'Haire

The old WCW only scratched the surface of Sean O'Haire's potential. He possesses raw talent and a physical look that should carry him far in the new WCW. Tag-team competition may be a thing of the past for the future singles superstar.

Chavo Guerrero Jr.

The former cruiserweight champion could reunite with uncle Eddy Guerrero in the WWF or rebuild his "horse" Pepe for another run in the new WCW. He is now free of the Misfits In Action gimmick and the lack of direction in his storyline. He could be a breakout star in the new WCW.

Stacy Keibler

Anyone in need of a diva? Ms. Hancock will provide the new WCW with a necessary female presence and a splash of T&A. Let's hope WCW drops the pregnancy angle once and for all.

Shane Helms

Hopefully, the WWF is more serious about pushing WCW cruiserweights than its own light heavyweights. "Sugar" Shane Helms provides a youthful spark and marketable look to a much-maligned weight class.

Shawn Stasiak

Shawn Stasiak may have an awkward return under the watchful eye of the WWF after his rancorous departure in December 1999. But with the proper guidance and effective angle, "the Star" could truly live up to his moniker in the new WCW.
