The top 50 - The Fans Speak Out

Wrestling Digest, August, 2002

You list of the top 50 wrestlers of the last 50 years [April 2002] was fine, but where was Don Leo Jonathan from Salt Lake City? He was--and still is--my all-time favorite wrestler.

It appalls me to see Hulk Hogan on your top 50 list. It's even more appalling to see him as No. 1. It's time to face facts, the man can't act, nor can he wrestle. This didn't just happen overnight. He was never good at either of the two. Sting, Ric Flair, the Undertaker, and Mick Foley should have been listed before Hogan. Bob Armstrong, the Freebirds, Haystacks Calhoun--I could fill your pages with better wrestlers. And as for calling Hogan a babyface, this word tells me that you've never seen a babyface before and you're blind if you consider Hogan one. On your next list, why not forget the can't-act, can't-wrestle jerks and at least name some real, hard-working wrestlers. Don't just follow your heart, try following the true fans for a change.

I have three problems with your list of the top 50 wrestlers.

1. Goldberg--Please, this was all just a gimmick. He could not wrestle if he had too. He hurt more people than anything.

2. Lex Luger--He has been a waste since the Horseman got rid of him. His career went nowhere fast.

3. Last and not least, where in the hell is the Brooklyn Brawler on this list? He is loved by more people and has been around longer than Goldberg. He actually means something to wrestling. He is one of the last jobbers out there. Where would wrestling be today without jobbers?
