Title company - The Fans Speak Out

Wrestling Digest, August, 2003

As you know, WWE recently brought back the hallowed intercontinental championship, with Christian being the first to hold the belt. Now that the IC title has been reinstated, "Raw" should also bring back the European and hardcore titles. As far as "Smackdown" is concerned, it should have its own women's and hardcore titles. "smackdown' should also resurrect all the WCW and ECW titles. At the very least "Smackdown" should feature the U.S. and TV titles.

Lately I've been reading in your pages the idea that WWE should reinstate the mid-card titles. I agree with this notion, not only because the dearth of titles hurts the talent of WWE, but because it kills the storylines as well. I remember watching WWE in the late '80s and early '90s when storylines were a lot better for mid-card matches. During that era, more of the lesser-known talents got their shots and were able to get their characters developed. Superstars like Shawn Michaels, Kevin Nash, the Rock, "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, and many others got a good push and elevated themselves using the mid-card intercontinental title. The IC belt was like a step on the ladder to making yourself a bigger name and eventually becoming a champion.

There's no doubt that bringing back some titles would help increase interest in WWE. Nothing goes over better than a title match with the belt on the line. WWE, though, has to be careful not to overdo it.
