Wrestling changes, so we do too - Mat Matters - Brief Article - Editorial

Wrestling Digest, Feb, 2002 by Alex Gordon

WE BEGAN PRODUCING WRESTLING DIGEST in June 1999 with a simple mission: to bring you an in-depth and no-bull look at the world of the squared circle. Well, here we are 16 issues later, and my how things in the ring have changed.

In 1999 we had the WWF and WCW locked in a war for the hearts and minds of wrestling fans. Coming up strong on the outside was ECW, with its exciting new brand of extreme wrestling.

Fast forward to 2002 and all that remains of the big three is the WWF, the federation having swallowed up its two biggest competitors. In that time we have seen the rise of stars like Kurt Angle, the sad demise of wrestlers like Owen Hart, and follies like the not-so-sorely missed XFL.

In the spirit of all that change, you'll find that beginning with this issue our magazine will be undergoing an evolution of sorts. For instance, this column, a way for me to communicate with you, the readers, makes its debut. Also this month, you'll find our signature "Quick Quiz" trivia test in the back of the magazine.

In the coming months, you'll see several other changes. We're bringing in some exciting new writers. We'll also be introducing some new departments. And there will be plenty of surprises along the way.

One thing that won't change is our commitment to bringing you an outstanding magazine full of intriguing profiles, insightful commentary, illuminating photography, and a no-holds-barred attitude.

As we make these changes, we want to hear from you, the fans. Send us a note at wd@centurysports.com and let us know what you think. Tell us who we should be writing about, who you are sick of reading about, and what we can do to make the magazine even better.
