Olsen Adds Third Vessel - Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines - Brief Article

Cruise Travel, July, 2001

Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines has purchased the cruise ship Crown Dynasty from a subsidiary of Commodore Cruise Line. The ship will join the company's two other vessels, the Black Watch and Black Prince, on worldwide cruise itineraries.

Before setting sail under Fred. Olsen ownership, the Crown Dynasty will undergo an extensive refit and refurbishment in a European shipyard to bring her up the quality and design levels of the line's current ships. A host of twin-bedded cabins will be converted to singles, reducing the passenger total to about 750. The cost of the vessel and the refurbishment is estimated at about $75 million. The 19,089-gross-register-ton Crown Dynasty entered service in 1993.

The ship will be renamed the Braemar and be the third vessel to join the Fred. Olsen fleet. (This is also Fred. Olsen's third passenger ship to bear that name). Like Fred. Olsen's other ships, the Braemar will be marketed in the U.S. by EuroCruises.
