Cruise Travel, July-August, 2002
It was recently announced that Princess Cruises will transfer its 1,950-passenger Sea Princess to U.K.-based sister company, P&O Cruises, next spring. The 77,000-gross-register-ton vessel will replace the 1,450-passenger Arcadia, which is moving to a new U.K. cruise line, Ocean Village, currently being developed by parent company P&O Princess Cruises to create an informal, contemporary style of cruising for that market. In her new role, the three-year-old Sea Princess will be renamed Adonia and refitted to cater to P&O Cruises passengers.
The Sea Princess departure follows the arrival of the Coral Princess this December, with sister ship Island Princess scheduled to join the Princess Cruises fleet in May 2003. The first of these two 88,000-grt vessels, which are being built by the French shipyard Chantiers de l'Atlantique, will feature a two-story interactive aft lounge, a New Orleans-style specialty restaurant, and an indoor/outdoor spa. In addition, only 10 percent of the staterooms will be inside, with 80 percent of the outside cabins featuring a private balcony.
