San Francisco

Cruise Travel, Oct, 2001 by Theodore W. Scull

Ships That Call: Most lines call at the Port of San Francisco in the spring and late summer en route to and from Alaska and on round-the-world and trans-Pacific cruises, including Carnival, Celebrity, Crystal, Cunard, Holland America, Norwegian, P&O, Princess, Radisson Seven Seas, Royal Caribbean, Seabourn, and Silversea. Clipper and Cruise West operate cruises from San Francisco and nearby Redwood City that explore the Sacramento and San Joaquin rivers and Napa Valley.

Weather: San Francisco and the immediate Bay Area has a soft maritime climate with generally cool temperatures. The average high ranges from 55 in January to 73 in September, with the average lows 41 to 55. The monthly rainfall averages range from 4.4 inches in January to 0.0 in July. The city experiences more mist and fog than heavy rain. However, the East Bay and inland regions are considerably hotter.
