Cruise Travel, Sept-Oct, 2003 by Williamay Zeiter
In June my husband and I and 21 of our "Foster Friends" enjoyed a cruise aboard Norwegian Cruise Line's Norwegian Dawn from New York to Cape Canaveral, Miami, Nassau, and NCL's private island. Not only is this a beautiful ship, but the service with a smile and the excellent variety of meals also added to our pleasure.
We have enjoyed cruises with a variety of cruise lines, but never before experienced "Freestyle Cruising." We liked being able to dine at whatever time we wished in the three main dining rooms--especially the Venetian. We also like having the $10 per person service charge added to our bill each day rather than the envelopes given out the last evening. It seemed to be agreeable to the staff as well--they were excellent.
The dress code on most evenings was "resort casual," one evening was "optional formal," another was "Caribbean." Personally, I wished more people enjoyed the formal rather than the casual--it is oft times too casual. Though it is permitted at breakfast and lunch, couldn't the men and boys be requested to remove their baseball caps in the main dining room?
On the day we set sail, our Freestyle Daily newspaper had this Quote of the Day: "Smiles are Contagious." Indeed they are--I am still smiling!
