Cruise Travel, Nov-Dec, 2003
Discovery World Cruises, founded in 2002 by noted travel-industry entrepreneur Gerry Herrod to offer cruise vacations to exotic destinations at affordable prices, is set to debut its ship MV Discovery in December on voyages to South America, New Zealand, the South Pacific, Hawaii, and even Antarctica, that run through March. During the rest of 2004 the ship will operate under charter to Voyages of Discovery, a tour operator based in the United Kingdom.
The 650-passenger/20,000-gross-registerton Discovery is large enough to cruise the world, yet small enough to enter remote harbors that today's megaships must pass by. The 1972-built vessel, best remembered for her years as the "Love Boat" Island Princess, has undergone an extensive, multi-million-dollar refit. Gerry Herrod is the former chairman of Orient Lines, Ocean Cruise Lines, and Pearl Cruises.
