The sad lament of the solo sailor - Letters - Letter to the Editor

Cruise Travel, Jan-Feb, 2004 by Ruth Neal

I totally agree with your letter-writers who complain about single people having to pay a 150 percent (or more) supplement to have a cabin to themselves. I used to be a stock holder in a large cruise line and sent them a letter to suggest adding single rooms to theft newbuilds. But the ships have been built without them. When Commodore Cruise Line was still sailing, they did have single rooms, which I enjoyed. How sad it is, as I love to cruise, that I could go more often if not being punished for wanting a room to myself. Wake up, cruise lines. Put single cabins back on the ships.

Indeed, single cabins are rare, but there are affordable options for the solo sailor. We take an in-depth look at them in the next issue.
