Passengers gave an enthusiastic "two thumbs up" to Princess Cruises' new "Movies Under The Stars" outdoor movie screen when it debuted in the spring of 2004 aboard the Caribbean Princess. Now the Grand Princess also features this innovative entertainment concept on her new itineraries out of Galveston.
The largest ship to sail out of the Texas port, the 109,000-gross-register-ton Grand Princess offers seven-day roundtrip Western Caribbean cruises that call at Cozumel, Costa Maya, Grand Cayman, and Belize--the only four-port week-long cruise itinerary in the region--through April 2005.
The Grand Princess's new Times Square-style LED (Light Emitting Diode) screen, located above the Neptune's Pool area, is more than 300 square feet in size and features an impressive 69,000-watt sound system. The million-dollar screen has sufficient lighting power to be seen clearly even during daytime hours and offers passengers a cinema experience comparable to a shoreside movie theater. The Grand Princess is the first Princess ship retrofitted to offer this now-trademark feature as the company expands the state-of-the-art screens to other ships in its fleet.
The "Movies Under The Stars" program shows a variety of entertainment throughout the day, featuring up to seven movies or events, including family films and first-run hits as well as concert footage and other special programming such as NFL Monday Night Football. In the evenings, lounge chairs are covered with special cushions and blankets and Princess's hallmark poolside service is available to enhance the viewing experience with free popcorn plus a variety of drink specials and movie nibbles.
