Topic: RSS FeedNCL Still Heading To Hawaii - Norweigian Cruise Lines to sail ships in Hawaii despite law against possession of gaming equipment by cruise lines - Brief Article
Cruise Travel, March, 2001
Norwegian Cruise Line recently confirmed that its plan to deploy the Norwegian Leo on year-round, seven-day cruises in Hawaii beginning December 16 remains unchanged. NCL is disappointed in the recent legislation relating to the possession of gaming equipment on cruise ships traveling to Hawaii.
This legislation, which was attached to the Labor, Health and Human Services appropriation bill, seems designed to discourage NCL and other cruise lines from competing in the Hawaiian market. The commentary accompanying the legislation gives the unfortunate impression that gambling and gaming activities are a primary focus of modrn cruise ships as well as the ship NCL intends to deploy on its Hawaii/Fanning Island itinerary. As cruise passengers are well aware, gaming activities are just one of many entertainment options NCL offers.
