Wish for Renaissance renaissance - Letters - Letter to the Editor

Cruise Travel, March-April, 2002 by Kurt Winkler, Colleen Winkler

With 34 cruises taken (and four more booked for 2002) that took us to every continent, I guess we can say we are completely "hooked" on this wonderful way of travel and vacation. Of course we have a few favorite lines and ships, and we can truly say that during 25 years of cruising we have had only a couple minor disappointments.

One large one is to have Renaissance Cruises take their nine identical ships out of use (Cruise News, Cruise Travel, February 2002). Those 30,000-ton ships were by far the most glamorous of any we have sailed, bar none! Their interior decorating from the lush colorful carpets, the curved paneled walls, the largest library of any (cozy port to starboard), lush drapery throughout, and the homey sitting areas around the ship has us hoping that those lovely vessels will sail again under whatever flag and names.

There were a few things on Renaissance that we didn't care for--like open-seating in all four restaurants and the limited daily activities (only one each hour), but then no one can please everybody. We certainly would love to sail those glamorous ships again.
