Busing to port an unbeatable value - Letters - Letter to the Editor

Cruise Travel, March-April, 2003 by Lucinda Dyjak

Fellow cruisers wanting to save some money, and some stress, might consider taking the bus instead of flying to the port, especially if it is just a few hundred miles away.

We recently booked a cruise out of New York City, thinking that air arrangements would be easy and fairly inexpensive. We were wrong. We decided to take Greyhound, and instead of paying $500-600, we both traveled roundtrip for just $93 total (a regular fare and a free companion fare). Our bus went directly from downtown Pittsburgh to 42nd Street in New York. We traveled the day before embarkation, easily justified the cost of a hotel room, had an evening and a morning in New York, and walked to the pier. We had no worries about our baggage getting lost, our fellow bus passengers were better behaved than on a plane, the seats on the bus were roomier, and we were able to start our cruise already relaxed. Can't beat that!
