Big beefs with small ship - Letters - Letter to the Editor

Cruise Travel, May-June, 2003 by Audrey Klofta

After reading M.T. Schwartzman's appealing article about Holland America Line's Prinsendam (Cruise Travel, April 2003), I would have wanted to book passage on her--if I hadn't already been on her in Europe in September of 2002.

The article does not mention that the Promenade Deck is too narrow to accommodate any deck chairs on the port and starboard sides. Instead, about 30 chairs are clustered at the aft of the deck overlooking the wake, very similar to a sun-deck arrangement.

Another unusual feature of the ship is the entrance to an outside cabin. A long, Earrow passageway--shared by your neighbor--leads off the main corridor to the cabin door. It looks and feels eerie! If the passageway space were included in the cabin, it would make a more spacious accommodation.

These are a couple of items not mentioned in Cruise Travel's description of HAL's new, smaller ship.
