Cruise Travel, May-June, 2004
The U.S. Coast Guard has designated Society Expeditions' World Discoverer as a "QUALSHIP 21 vessel," an honor reflecting the vessel's high standard of operations. QUALSHIP 21 is a marine safety initiative implemented by the Coast Guard that identifies high-quality foreign-flagged ships and provides incentives and recognition to vessels to encourage quality operations.
The World Discoverer, a 354-foot expedition cruise ship accommodating up to 150 guests, is among the few passenger vessels in the world that can approach some of the most isolated and pristine island habitats on earth while providing unparalleled comfort and stale-of-the-art amenities. Boasting the latest navigational equipment, the ship's specially strengthened hull has earned her an unsurpassed ice-rating for passenger vessels. The World Discoverer is one of the few cruise liners in the world designed to be self-sufficient in remote areas; she can stand up to the most challenging environments.
Society Expeditions continues a tradition of unique small-ship sailings by providing pioneering, one-of-a-kind itineraries to create unique, enriching, and enjoyable cruise adventures. This year Society Expeditions celebrates its 30th anniversary with expedition voyages to the South Pacific, Russian Far East, Remote Alaska, and the Antarctic.
