Fuel cost protection - RV update: places, products, clubs, & activities you can enjoy in your RV - Brief Article

Travel America,  July-August, 2003  by Nancy Baren Miller

El Monte RV, one of the nation's largest motorhome rental companies, is offering a major reduction on gasoline prices by implementing price guarantees that are well below the national gas price average. Here's how it works: Using a conservative eight miles per gallon RV consumption rate, the fuel cost based on a national average of $1.68 per gallon is 21 cents per mile. El Monte's guaranteed lower rate (using a price of $1.35 per gallon) is about 16 cents per mile, a 4 cents per mile savings. That means if you drove 3,000 miles, you'd save about $120 in gas, which El Monte applies as a credit to rental costs upon return of the vehicle. The higher gas prices go, the bigger the credit provided. For details, call El Monte at (800) 337-214. El Monte has about 50 locations across the country and offers more than 10 different RV

models for rent.
