Exclusive exhibition - Touring - The Glory of Baroque Dresden at the Mississippi Arts Pavillon - Brief Article

Travel America, March-April, 2004

* "The Glory of Baroque Dresden," one of the biggest museum events being staged in the South this year, showcases a treasure chest of art and artifacts from March 1 to September 6 at the Mississippi Arts Pavillon in Jackson. The first major exhibition from Dresden presented in North America since the reunification of East and West Germany features paintings by Rembrandt, Rubens, and other Old Masters; Meissen porcelain; jewel-encrusted ceremonial arms and armor; furniture; sculptures and decorative arts; and costumes and crowns.

Jewels include the 41-carat Dresden Green Diamond, the largest green diamond ever found. The 400 works from the State Art Collections Dresden survived the 1945 firebombing that nearly destroyed Dresden. Contact: Mississippi Arts Pavillon, (601) 960-9900; www.gloryofdresden.com.
