"New" vegetarian is healthier and happier
Vegetarian Journal, March-April, 2004
Hello, I am writing to tell you all how much this website means to me. I am the only vegetarian (near vegan) in my family. They all criticize me for choosing this lifestyle and occasionally tease me by offering me meat and dairy products. Thanks to your website, I have been able to prepare meals for my family that they enjoy but yet still don't know are vegetarian or even vegan. I see them eating what I make and saying that it is better to eat meat than not to. I just laugh inside because, for the last year, they haven't (in my home, of course). When we go out they say how my cooking is better than the meats out in the restaurants. Soon, they will find out why.
When I used to eat meat, about three years ago, I was always ill. I always had stomach problems that no doctor could explain. Then, one day, one of my friends showed me a video on how they kill the animals. I vowed right then and there to never touch a piece of meat or eggs or milk ever again. Ever since then, I haven't had a single stomach problem. I am a lot happier with myself because I know I am helping the planet by not consuming any animal products. Even my family noticed that I am happier and my self-esteem is so much better than before. I am now making room in my dad's garden to grow my own vegetables, and my daddy is willing to help me. My whole happiness I owe to you wonderful people who care about the animals and the people of this earth. I could never thank you enough. Sincerely,
