Telecom Asia, April, 2004

Wang Xilin, deputy director of the Standardization Administration of China, a unit of the State Council, says China will stand firm on its June 1 compliance deadline for the controversial WAPI encryption standard mandate. Wang's statement comes as Intel says it will halt sales of its Centrino Wi-Fi chip in China.

US business groups have also urged the Bush administration to step up pressure on China to drop the new rules.
