Napstered - Backpage Briefing - Napster case settlement - Brief Article

Telecom Asia, May, 2002

Having triumphed in court over music fileswapping company Napster, the music industry has signalled it is ready to stamp out illegal file trading wherever it finds it. The Recording Industry Association of America last month forced a $1 million payment out of an Arizona company that ran a dedicated server allowing employees to distribute files over its network, Reuters reported.

Following eight months of negotiations, the firm, Integrated Information Systems, decided to pay the cash rather than go to court. RIAA VP Matt Oppenheim praised ISS for "accepting its responsibility and working actively with us to settle this case".
