Sydney: The Australian government is now offering an A$1,100 ($585) subsidy to help rural dwellers buy mobile satellite phones. The subsidy is available for people in remote areas without CDMA or GSM coverage and who are unlikely to get coverage in the near future. It represents up to 50% of the purchase price of a satellite mobile phone.
