Fixed mobile substitution over estimated

Telecom Asia, June, 2005

Lower voice rates and Internet access will keep Australians hooked on their fixed lines despite the popularity of mobile phones in the country. Research from AMR Interactive shows that 71% of the 1,915 Australians surveyed feel that relying exclusively on mobile phones for all their calls is too expensive. Sixty percent said they still need their fixed-line phones for Internet access. The report further states that forecasts pointing to the early demise of fixed lines in Australia may have been overestimated as the wholesale substitution of mobile phones for fixed lines is not likely in the near term.
