Mind building through exercise - health matters - physical activity may slow mental decline - Brief Article

Better Nutrition, Oct, 2001

Exercise is good for us--we're all aware of that--but here's another reason that will get your heart pumping: a study conducted by Kristine Yaffe and colleagues of the University of California suggests that there is a link between physical activity and mental decline.

The study, published in the Archives ct Internal Medicine, looked at almost 6,000 women aged 65 and over. Physical activity was measured by blocks walked per week, stairs climbed and kilocalories expended in recreation. The researchers found that those who participated in the most physical activity were the least likely to develop cognitive decline.
