The big news about barley

Better Nutrition, Oct, 2006

Studies show that barley lowers the risk of coronary heart disease (CHD), and now the Food and Drug Administration has authorized the use of a heart health claim on whole-grain barley products. CHD causes almost 500,00 deaths annually. The soluble fiber in barley has been shown to help lower total Cholesterol levels and levels of low-density lipoprotein (LDL), two major risk factors for CHD.

Products expected to display this claim include flakes, flour and pearled barley.
