Henner testifies before House Subcommittee

Better Nutrition, Dec, 2004

A study released in September 2004 said that daily use of calcium would prevent 734,000 hip fractures in the United States and save $13.9 billion in health care costs over 5 years. Its extrapolated data also showed that the daily use of folic acid by women would prevent 600 cases of neural tube defects yearly, saving $1.3 billion over 5 years.

Study results were presented to the US House of Representatives Subcommittee on Human Rights and Wellness, where Marilu Henner, actress, author and columnist for Better Nutrition, testified.

The study was conducted by a consulting group at the behest of the Dietary Supplement Education Alliance, an industry trade group.
