The transcendental program--no, it's not on cable--may be as effective at lowering blood pressure as drug therapy, research shows. Meditating twice a day for 20 minutes decreases readings by about 11 points for the systolic or upper, number; it decreases the diastolic number by about 6 points. That's twice the decrease achieved by simply relaxing for the same amount of time.
