Oregano and some other spices can kill as many as 30 different bacterial species.

Onion, garlic and allspice, are powerful, natural antibiotics; also on this list: thyme, tarragon, cumin, cloves, bay leaf and cayenne pepper.

But oregano is also a strong antioxidant, mopping up molecular garbage known as "free radicals," which cause aging and cancer. In fact, one tablespoon of fresh oregano has 42 times more antioxidant activity than a medium apple.
