Pills: red or white?

Better Nutrition, May, 2004

Do you want the heart protection of red Wine--known as the French paradox because it protects French hearts from their normally high-fat diet--without the risks of alcohol consumption? Grape seed extracts have met this need for some time. But now, more companies are offering a dietary supplement containing extracts of red wine--actual, preserved red wine molecules, without the alcohol, calories or sulfites. A few products such--as Longevinex from Resveratrol Partners--also include natural preservatives made from rice bran. Wine extracts generally offer up to 15 milligrams (mg) of trans resveratrol from French red wine along with a few other botanical ingredients. That's the equivalent of 3-15 glasses of red wine!
